Monthly Meeting | Tips and Myths: Legal Best Practices for Freelance Writers

  • 08 Mar 2022
  • 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  • Room 4F at the Gratz Center, 126 E. Chestnut Street, Chicago, Illinois

Registration is closed

Join arts attorney Elizabeth Russell for a lively discussion about the legal “big ticket” issues for writers. Elizabeth will share common myths and misunderstandings about copyright. She will talk about the connection between mayhem and do-it-yourself contracting. She’ll shine a light on the copyright “termination right” and the role it plays in our estate and marital property plans.

Elizabeth will also introduce the concept of “Legal CPR” and her controversial view that the skills (of triage and summoning assistance) are more useful than the knowledge (of how to solve legal problems ourselves). The time will fly, but we’ll leave enough for a few follow up questions.

Elizabeth Russell is an attorney, author, photographer, and creative advocate. She is the author of Arts Law Conversations: A Surprisingly Readable Guide for Arts Entrepreneurs (Ruly Press 2014) and Copyright Conversations: What Estate Planners Need to Know (Ruly Press 2019).
